So this is not to say, well, don't worry about the library.

We'll find it somewhere.

My mentor Schultes was working the Amazon for over a decade, and he had this nemesis who was this old fundamentalist missionary.

And she goes, I don't know why you're wasting your time writing down all this stupid Indian stuff.

You know, when Jesus returns to earth, all will be revealed.

And Schultes said, I don't want to wait.

So, you know, it's a very exciting time because these technologies make the ancient world or the preliterate world more accessible than ever before.

But at the same time, we're burning down the library.

and essentially burning down the librarians when these cultures disappear.

So it's not a question of just losing nature.

It's a question of losing nature, which goes right back to the Library of Allegiance.

Well, there's several answers to that question.

One is we're an acquisitive species.

We like new toys.

Okay, that's not just us.

That's everybody.

But the problem is when these technologies sweep in, they're usually introduced by people who are not interested in doing that in a way to help protect the culture.

We at the Amazon Conservation Team do ethnographic mapping, which is we train indigenous peoples to map their lands.

And to be able to do that, they need GPSs and they need walkie-talkies.

So we're introducing this in a way which helps protect the culture because they got to go to grandfather and ask for the old hunting legends.
