in the route of when they were looking to hire full-time and I was still part-time.

I was covering all those Bulls games and it was that year that Michael came back and

Michael never spoke before a game, ever.

But I would still go into the Bulls locker room because you never know what you're going to see or you're going to hear.

And I would go the second they opened it up.

And all the other reporters were either still in the lunchroom or they were down the hall or something like that.

And there was Michael.

He got a new shipment of Air Jordans in his locker.

And I walked up to him and I said, Michael, you have a sack?

He said, sure.

And so I started interviewing Michael Jordan one-on-one.

And...

Soon, a couple other reporters came and then it became more of a gang bang.

But for five minutes, I got him one-on-one.

And for that sports cast at five o'clock, I played my one-on-one.

And they said, who's this 23, 24-year-old kid getting a one-on-one with Michael?

And it's like the biggest one of my favorite phrases is the harder you work, the luckier you get.

I got lucky, but I put myself in a good position to execute that.

And that was sort of a big moment in my career where they knew they could trust me.

And they knew even though I wasn't Wayne Larravee and I was just some young kid from Skokie that I could do the job.
