And that was a light infantry unit, and we ended up doing deployments at East Timor.

So joining and just going through the mechanics of –

of training for it and deploying and having the responsibilities of it.

I really enjoyed it.

Yeah.

The most major combat deployment before then was Vietnam, which we stopped in the early 70s.

Yeah.

And for really 20 years, there really wasn't much.

Yeah.

And then we started some peacekeeping missions.

So Rwanda, this is in the 90s, Rwanda and Somalia and a few others.

And the guys that had been on those operations were kind of legendary in the unit because there were no operations then.

But East Timor started in 1999, the crisis there, and I was just finishing my training.

And from that point on, for the next 20 years, the Australian military was constantly deployed.

I think so, yeah.

Yeah.

And I think some people are disparaging about it.

It's not real operations.

You learn bad habits.

But you're still going through the mechanics of going over and doing your trade constantly for a six-month deployment.
