It's like possible wrongdoing at that level.

Then there's the process by which we got there, which was a bit of a shambles.

I don't know how – if you're investigating –

war crimes is kind of unparalleled, but the Brereton Inquiry, if you're investigating something like that and you uncover some type of an offence which is as serious as that, surely that would be handed over to

federal police or something like that, I imagine.

Yeah, does it even apply under Australian law?

In another jurisdiction.

Yeah.

Well, if you're given a medal because you're showing outstanding leadership of an organization, it implies that you're responsible for the good things they've done.

And therefore, if they've done bad things, then you either should have known and didn't or did know and turned a blind eye.

Yeah.

Which one is it?

I think that is a whole other issue.

There's this concentrated justice issue, but then there's all these other accountability components, which I just don't think is going to be addressed.

And this is why I think Australians are…

pretty furious about the whole issue because they see it as being a us against them type issue.

The counter to it would be, well, you're selected and trained for those trades to be able to withstand all that and still operate professionally.

That would be a comeback.

And the problem is, though, that there was clear evidence, and this will eventually all come out, that soldiers were breaking down psychologically.
