I just bimbled through life.

I kind of still have.

But I was bimbling through the first part of my career without that clarity.

I was getting away with it.

But I didn't have that.

You were just doing it and then suddenly you think, actually, this is worthwhile.

Actually, this is okay.

I'm going to concentrate on that.

And even from now I'm doing something really silly.

Because when I finished at Arts Ed, I really wanted to go into theatre and education because I thought that's worthwhile.

I thought that's a good thing to do.

And then I didn't get a job there, so I didn't do that.

Still bimbling.

I did a play at the Hampstead Theatre that was very good I had a really good part that wasn't on much that's why it was a bit like Mercutio you know didn't get worn out and it went very well and Harry Enfield came to see it and then asked me to do some sketches on his sketch show

And then we did a TV series together called Gone to the Dogs with Warren Clark and Alison Steadman and lots of lovely people.

And then Harry was going out with Sue Virtue, who was Beryl Virtue's daughter at the time, and then the idea for Men Behaving Badly came along.

And then I got, you know, Harry suggested me to Beryl for that.

Oh, so that's... That's when people learnt my name, if you know what I mean.

I was doing an Inspector Morse or a Lovejoy here or there, you know, before that.

Oh, no, I'd been in a sitcom.
