We when things that are new, we never know how they're going to end up.
There are many possibilities.
But one possibility.
Is we no longer think of the West as a thing.
And if we no longer think of the West as a thing, people start looking at the world.
Seems to me anything can happen in the long run.
Very, very unlikely in the short to medium run.
And the reason is the dominant power in Europe is Germany.
And Germany is an industrial power.
Well, industrial power facing lots of difficulties, but still an industrial power.
It sees itself as such, and it will want its uh its industrial.
industrial sector to be successful and thriving.
Opening up to China if that means, for example, the disappearance of most of its motor vehicle industry, if I I stress if, uh, would I think be a decision they won't make.
They would they are far more likely to choose some form of protection.
Though that's exactly the debate the Germans are now having because they also have a very big interest in the Chinese economy.
But I don't think Europe, where industry is significant
Manufacturing is still more important than in uh America and where the tech sector, despite whatever the potential is, is now really rather weak, will give up manufacturing easily.
And that makes it very difficult to be even more liberal vis-a-vis China than they already are.
