Lichtenberg figures, yes, they are pathognomonic, which means if you got Lichtenberg figures, you had a lightning injury, period.
You didn't have anything else because it only occurs with lightning injuries.
But they're rare, and they go away within a few hours to a few days.
A Lichtenberg figure, just like if you look at lightning and you see all of the fingers coming out of it and all of the projections, that's what it looks like on the skin.
It looks like a lightning strike because it has all of the fingers coming out of it.
Or another way of looking at it, it's also called ferning.
If you took a Boston fern and put it down on your skin, that's what it would look like, okay?
That's my theory.
People have said it follows nerves.
No, it doesn't follow nerve distributions.
It follows blood vessels.
No, it really doesn't.
But because the current is going across your skin...
it does induce, just as we were talking about it, it induces a charge in those capillary muscle walls.
The muscles contract.
They squeeze a little bit of red blood cells and white blood cells out of the capillaries, and it looks like a bruise.
It looks brownish, like a bruise might start with, to start with, kind of reddish brown.
And then over a period of hours or days,
it fades, and it fades through the colors of a bruise as well.
So I think it's that.
