Corporations have mission statements, and
have always told my clients that a mission statement is if you constantly go back and look at it, it makes all your decision-making processes
so much easier because you weigh it against the mission.
Does this support the mission?
No.
Then that's probably something we shouldn't do.
The same thing as individuals.
Whether you're a man or a woman entering the business field, by knowing yourself, by truly starting to understand what your core values are and what you want as a human being, what we want within our career is going to change.
That comes with wisdom and age.
So, gosh, at my point in life I must know a lot of stuff.
But jokes aside, you've got to sit down and say, if I know who I am, I know what my values are, and I know what at the end of the day is important to me and what I would want to teach my children, then I am going to make better business decisions.
And some of those decisions will mean, do I even want a leadership role?
I've counseled a lot of women to not go for that, that they really think that they want to be a CEO, but they really don't.
Because when you look at some of the sacrifices that you make in terms of the time needed, the dedication, the study, the travel, if that's going to take them away from their home and their kids, then what is the most important?
You can't have two that are absolutely equal.
that's going to help determine because something will suffer.
In fact, going back to citing Rhoda Olson, she's the one who told me this whole idea of work-life balance doesn't exist.
It is a matter of choosing which things you are willing to do without, which things are you willing to let take a back seat.
So if you know who you are, that helps determine do you want to follow a leadership path
Are you better in a corporate situation, or are you really best being independent or being an entrepreneur?
