And um, you know, we all know how that's ended.
It that that's you know, that's been a disastrous on the diplomatic front.
And of course the the amateurs, right?
I mean there's there there are
On everything in the Trump administration, it makes me so mad, they've got really smart people sitting in the State Department or in the Pentagon who've either been sacked or sidelined.
And they're not listening to their advice, just as, you know, Bush didn't listen to the advice of the State Department during the Iraq War, as you know.
Colin Powell was sidelined in favor of Don Rumsfeld who wanted to do something entirely differently, or Dick Cheney.
who's now seen as the patron saint of the sensible Republican uh, you know, party, um, R.I.P, but actually at the time was Darth Vader.
So it's amazing how things change, isn't it?
Sure.
I mean, uh I'm totally fascinated by the story because, you know, the Canadians, who would who would have thunk it, right?
That the the mild-mannered, polite Canadians, sometimes and I think very unfairly accused of being a bit dull, you know, have not just stood up to Trump in a way that actually no other nation has stood up to Trump.
But Mark Carney, who we know in this country as our former central banker, you know, gv you know, smart, good looking.
clever, but also mild minded.
He's a central banker, not a not a wrestler.
you know, has stood up to Trump in a way that makes most European leaders blanche with shame that they haven't done it themselves and admiration.
So there was a famous speech he gave at the Davos uh Economic Forum where he talked about rupture with the with the past and with the US.
And then just, you know, a week ago, when the negotiations failed, the trade negotiations failed, at the very last minute, because America tried to impose terms that were simply unacceptable to any nation that likes to think of itself as sovereign and independent, Carney stood up and said, This is a declaration of war, of economic war against us, and we will fight back.
So that's what they've done by basically matching American tariffs with Canadian tariffs.
Canada is the second biggest trading partner for the US.
