And of course the US is Canada's biggest trading partner.

So there will be pain on both sides, right?

But the fact that he's prepared to do this and has got 75% support from the Canadian public is extraordinary.

Now talk to them again in six months' time.

You know, when the Christmas lights go out or whenever that is in four months' time, it might be a different story then.

But I think

Trump always underestimates the dignity of people that he tramples on.

And you know, and and a lot of other leaders around the world think that, you know, it's all transactional and if we can only just give in to Trump a little bit, we'll get away with it.

But as Carney said quite openly

If we give into him now, who's to say that the terms won't change tomorrow?

So this inability to trust Trump even on the most basic level and those who speak on his behalf has so undermined America's standing in the world that will far outlast even his presidency because people will say in six years' time, can we really trust you when you give us this?

Who's to say you won't get another Trump coming along or someone like him who's just gonna shred any deals that were made in the past?

I think the other and just quickly on Trump, which is really interesting, he obviously he likes a winner.

And when I interviewed Zelensky, he told me

E you know, everyone hates a loser and Trump likes a winner, which is why it's so important for Zelensky to be seen to be doing well in this war.

And as you've noticed, you know, Trump has changed his tune on Zelensky recently.

And then I remember one little anecdote when President Macron spoke to the joint houses of Congress, you know, back in twenty eighteen, I think it was, and the speech was applauded even though it was very critical of Donald Trump.

Trump then rang up uh Macron afterwards on his mobile phone, I know this from the French ambassador, and said, you know, Emmanuel, you are incredible, they loved you.

And Emmanuel Macron thought to himself, well, hang on a minute, I've just been very critical of you.
