If the parties that get into power are dependent, rather like Netanyahu has been, on right-wing extremists who believe that the West Bank should be annexed, is actually being annexed at the moment, stealthily, who believe that there should be new settlements in Gaza.

And there are these, you know, there's a plan from the current defense minister to build these military settlements.

nahal settlements idf settlements that are often the precursor to civilian settlements if all this goes ahead as a result of a new coalition government then you can you can kiss any kind of disarmament plan goodbye frankly so but if on the other hand we have a coalition of parties that do actually want to create a viable future for the people of gaza the palestinians of gaza emerging from the election and it's always a messy coalition process

then maybe there will be a real plan.

But until that election has taken place, any timeline, frankly, I think is meaningless.

I don't know.

It's far too early to say that.

I mean, they have their own constituency of mass fighters and the wider population to answer to.

if they're trying to push something too radical without significant concessions from Israel down the throats of their former fighters or dormant fighters, that's not going to go down well.

But also we know from the new leadership of Hamas that they want to turn the organization into something a bit more like the Muslim Brotherhood or indeed Hezbollah in Lebanon.

So it's not just a fighting force, but it's also an organization that looks after social care and education, you know, becomes much more embedded in the society of

of the Gaza Strip.

I mean, they've been doing some of that, of course, in the past anyway, but they would emphasize more of that because that's where they perhaps see their future.

And they also, I mean, don't forget, they need to rebuild their support.

I mean, there are a lot of Palestinians in Gaza who will be unhappy with the fact that their lives have been completely destroyed and upended and their homes have been flattened by the Israelis.

um because of what her mask did on october the 7th others will applaud it but many others won't i think i mean the other really interesting component is what trump does trump desperately needs a win in the middle east the gulf war has been going very badly for him it's very unpopular it's really still pushing up petrol prices in the us they've got their midterm elections coming up in october in november um this is not going to look good for the administration he absolutely needs to be able to turn around

and deliver more than just highfalutin words about this being the best agreement signed in 3 000 years since the invention of the pen he's got to actually do something that is tangible not that the american public cares that much about gaza but they would do want to know

that their action man president can actually deliver actions that have consequences on the ground as opposed to just empty promises.
