You should probably be opening around 317, 320-ish, taking some bigger jumps.
But anyway, to his credit, hits a deadlift PB and was able to hang on to silver.
Really cool to see Regan Sturgakis get on the podium there.
It was interesting because he and Emil had the same exact body weight.
and so you can't uh you know that's crazy you can't you can't land on the same total because then it goes to the lifter who hit the total first which we've learned um and emil norling hit the 932 and a half mark with his third deadlift uh finishing off at 375 so he hit the 932 so it forced reagan to take 382 and a half um you know to to to eclipse emil and end up with a 935 total
um so anyway that's just interesting to see and that 382 and a half to his credit i mean that was pretty much like a limit lift i don't know if he'd had 385 which would have been enough to go above uh to go above anatoly but clearly you know i would imagine the conversation with the denmark coaching team went something like you know hey man are you willing to take a swing at anatoly
they they 100 made the right call and that 382 and a half was tough yeah and so he made it and to get bronze is huge so credit to reagan also shout out to nathaniel messiah i coached him this was his first open world championships and he rose to the occasion and really shined hit a squat pb uh and and got deadlift gold and had a seven and a half kilo pb on his total so the
You know, his arrow is pointing up, his future is bright, and he was the consummate professional, really enjoyed working with him.
So to your point, Ryan, though, you really painted a really nice picture here and kind of nailed it.
But I just wanted to add the, you know, a little bit of color to the conversation.

I was a little bit surprised actually that they opened where they did on the squat.
Um,
Because look, Ashton had, we all know it's well-documented, all of the external variables that he was dealing with leading into this competition.
He moved, he was with a new outfit in the military, undergoing a tremendous amount of physical testing, and also he was injured.
And so I was just, I thought it was a little curious that they opened at 362 and a half.
Perhaps they were projecting that, look, he's going to squat 400 kilos, or he's going to squat a little bit over.
