But yeah, so I like it.

I like it.

I like meeting readers.

And to be honest, it's a massive privilege to be able to get out there, talk about this daydream you had that you shared with people.

And I think deep down, one of the reasons I write is because I remember that loneliness, that silence of depression and mental illness and stuff.

And so I think my writing instinct comes from that desire to feel less alone and to feel less weird.

And so by sharing your weird daydreams and other people relating to them, you build a kind of community of yourself.

That's an equal community between reader and author.

And so I love actually getting out.

The first spark for the Midnight Library, I think actually that kind of came out of spending too long on the internet.

Because, you know what I mean?

Because the internet is a stage of comparison.

Yes, very.

And you're comparing yourself to other lives.

So I'm often writing books that I need to read.

So it's not like I'm writing from a wise place on top of the mountain saying how you should live your life.

Right.

It's more like I'm trying to listen to an inner voice that knows what I should do, but isn't necessarily doing it.

So I think the Midnight Library I wrote almost as a therapy session, like a fantasy therapy session.

So there's a way of reading the Midnight Library where you don't see Mrs. Alm as a librarian, you see her as a therapist.
