The last thing panic wants is for you to choose it.

So as soon as you choose it, panic wants you to run away from it.

So you choose a decision, you choose discomfort, and eventually your brain adjusts and you stop being scared of that.

So I knew, I pushed myself into so many situations.

I'd be offered to be judge of a prize where I knew I'd have to do a talk at an official ceremony.

I'd choose it.

I would choose all these things, like TV things, things I could have easily opted out of, but I always chose to do it.

And eventually, I started to like it.

The big change for me was in 2019, I was offered to do a tour

I never really minded sitting here chatting to you, but when you just go out on a stage on your own, like the TED Talk version of you, that was what's scary, where you've got no safety net, it's just you.

And I chose this tour of theatres around the country,

And that was terrifying, but after that, sort of everything else has felt fine.

And I actually enjoy it because the weird thing about the Midnight Library is there's no book tour for the Midnight Library.

It was COVID.

It was lockdowns and there was a few Zoom things.

It wasn't good.

Although that makes me paranoid because like my most successful book was the one where I never toured.

So maybe I was the problem.

Maybe I'm back out here putting people off my books.

No, I don't know.
