And I like names that aren't too specific.

Like you can be a lot of different nationalities and called Nora.

You can be a lot of different nationalities and called Seed.

It's kind of like ambiguous.

So I like names like that.

Quite early, actually.

Like, it's been bubbling for quite a while.

I'd written a children's book called A Boy Called Christmas, and that had been adapted by this company called Blueprint in the UK.

And that was made into a film with Maggie Smith and lots of people in it.

And I really like what they did with it.

I mean, that film didn't have a big release it could have done because, again, COVID.

so it was never in cinemas, but they did a good job with it, and I liked the process of working with them, and I trusted them.

So they wanted straight away to get The Midnight Library, so I gave it to them, and for a while, it was going to be directed by a certain person, and then that director couldn't do it.

So there were lots of stop-start moments.

And psychologically, if you're a writer and your book has a film rights load, I've learned that you just...

try not to think about it.

You do not think about red carpets or any of that stuff because you don't know what's gonna happen.

My very first novel 20 years ago was optioned by Brad Pitt and never turned into a film.

And yet when it was optioned by Brad Pitt I thought,

Next week, I'm going to be in Malibu.
