I had been to university for...

as long as I could realistically, I was putting sort of adulthood off.

So I'd done a degree, then I did another degree in English literature, and adult life was looming.

There were drinking drugs involved in my life.

I'd gone to a bifa with my girlfriend that summer, so I'd spent a winter studying sort of like highbrow literary theory, and then a summer totally the opposite, just dance music and drugs and alcohol.

So I was just a mess, and my mind was overactive, and I had no idea, as I said, what I wanted to be in life.

I was facing going back to London and trying to get a job, and it was just all too much.

And I hit a wall, and then one morning,

And at this point, I was reasonably healthy in terms of I'd gone out for a run that morning.

There'd been no drugs involved for quite a while.

I mean, still alcohol, but not much.

I was smoking.

But beyond that, it wasn't crazy.

I went for a run one morning, and I came back from a run, and my heart started to go crazy.

And I was basically having a panic attack.

But you think of a panic attack as like a 10-minute thing.

This was a panic attack that just did not stop.

It kept going.

It sort of drained my whole system.

I couldn't keep food down.
