With the way that the roster is currently constructed, it made the most sense to me because I thought Kreider, once the addition came in, that he would slot in on that first line because Slavkovski on the second line, it's not a demotion, as Martin St.
Louis said.
We saw him last year and the role that he took and how seriously he took it.
So...
I think Slavkovski on the first line with Suzuki and Caulfield, that's a break in case of emergency.
That second line with Demidov, Slavkovski, and Kapanen was so good for the 30 or so games that they were at last season that the addition of Chris Kreider allows them to explore that option further.
Of course they're taking a chance, but I mean, we talk so much about the internal competition that they like to cultivate and make that environment such a big part of the environment.
Oliver Kapanen scored 22 goals last year, and I understand that he's not the flashiest guy and that he tailed off at the end of the season and yada, yada, yada.
That's all good.
I understand that.
But at the end of the day, he earned the right to get a chance to show what he can do with another year of experience, another summer under his belt, because 22 goals in the NHL is pretty damn hard to do.
Just ask Zach Bolduc.
He did 21 in his rookie season.
Didn't go so easy in his second.
So he's earned that right.
And I think that the team believes in him.
Yeah, sure.
They would love to have another...
Another center, maybe slot him down to the three center.
Maybe slide him over to the wing.
