But I wanted people to hear it because research has shown that anything more than a a a second and a half dramatically increases.
The amount of additional information that you're going to get from your guest, right?
Because why is that?
We've been conditioned and we've grown up to believe that dead air is a bad thing, right?
You've always got all these DJs and they're always filling all the space with all the words because they can't have dead air.
So when we're faced with dead air or just silence, it's uncomfortable.
We don't know what to do.
And what I found.
And what shifted for me was when I realized if I just shut my mouth once in a while and didn't dive in to ask the next question or to add my insight or show how smart I am, that the guest would give me better stuff back.
Because they were like, oh, maybe he's waiting for more.
Maybe I'll give them more.
And they start to go a little bit deeper.
All of that is built on
the trust and rapport that you build with your guests starting up.
If you just say, hey, my guest is Matt Stagliano and then stare at the camera, right?
We have nowhere to go.
We have no idea what to do.
So I think it's a it's a useful skill, especially when you're paying attention.
You know you're pulling on that good thread that the guest is is going down this road.
And you want to get just a little bit more by just staying silent or letting it hang for a little bit.
