I've always wondered if there was a misreading of the Scottish referendum and the Indy referendum back in 2014, in the sense that uh a big theme of that, of course, was also sort of project fear about what it would cost the Scots where they should sort of become independent.
And um, of course, that didn't go massively well in a sense, because two weeks out from the um Indy end of the Indy ref, I think yes, we're ahead by a little bit.
Then Gordon Brown came in, of course, in more of a hopeful message, more of a sort of
pro UK let's all say together message and that sort of won the day.
So do you think that perhaps was a misreading of how things ran in twenty fourteen?
We knew that basically if there was gonna be um a very low turnout, that'd be good for us.
So like a sort of council election if you like.
If it was like a sort of medium level turnout, that'd be a tough race.
If it was a high turnout, that was very good for us.
So we knew that basic parameters.
This is a very standard thing that campaigns do.

There were huge splits on it and some of you thought we were wrong to use the gross amount and you know, uh huge divisions on that.

And we went for the full amount because um even people like George Osborne, then Chancellor, had said that we don't necessarily always get back the rebate.
It wouldn't always be there in perpetuity.
