Very few people knew about that.
It was very funny because during the Iran-Contra affair, Don Regan, who was the White House chief of staff, presided over this disaster.
And so then Nancy Reagan finally convinced her husband, Ronnie, to fire Don Regan.
And Don Regan was fuming.
He was this former CEO of Merrill Lynch.
He was not used to being fired.
And so...
He went to write his memoir while the Reagans were still in office.
And in his personal files, which are now at the Library of Congress, I actually found a folder marked revenge.
A lot of people get revenge.
They really write down revenge on one of their folders.
But that's exactly what he did.
And he got his revenge because he wrote this memoir in which he revealed
the deep, dark secret of the Reagan White House, which was Nancy's reliance on this astrologer, this celebrity astrologer named Joan Quigley out in San Francisco.
And she became really paranoid after Ronnie's near assassination in 1981.
And so
She constantly consulted Joan Quigley to schedule the president's events, speeches, travel, all this stuff, because she wanted to make sure the stars were aligning to keep him safe.
And so when Don Regan revealed this, it kind of turned Nancy Reagan into this laughingstock.
But she had been right to fire Don Regan.
He was a terrible chief of staff, but he did get his revenge.
