She said that in the night she had been awakened, some men were knocking at the door, and they had been sent by Charles Taylor, and they were giving her, they had given her a huge diamond.
But it was interesting because up to that point, we had called witnesses who had lost limbs, lost their families, lost their livelihood.
And the public gallery was sometimes people in it, sometimes not.
Naomi Campbell came to testify the public gallery was overflowing.
There were TV trucks outside for this lady who had not suffered anything in that war.
And yet the people who had suffered got very little public attention.
Finally, in March 2011, the trial heard closing arguments.
At the end of our case, I felt very confident in our evidence.
In my mind, we had proven our case well over what was required.
But again, I'm not a judge.
I don't know how they're thinking.
So there's always a bit of anxiety.
Taylor was cleared of directly ordering the atrocities.
But the judges asked him to stand to hear that he was guilty of aiding and abetting all 11 crimes listed in the indictment.
Charles Taylor had become the first former head of state convicted by an international court since the Nuremberg trials of Nazis after World War II.
In 2012, he was cleared of giving the orders, but was sentenced to 50 years in jail for aiding and abetting crimes against humanity.
I thought 50 years was a good sentence.
I didn't want Charles Taylor and still don't want Charles Taylor to ever be released from prison.
And I'm very proud of the way that we conducted the case.
