So upon graduating, private practice was never in my horizon.
You could not have bet me any amount of money I would be sitting here.
Having this conversation with you and being a practice owner.
I graduated from the University of Texas in Austin and then moved to Tyler, which is a respectively rural area compared, but it is still the biggest medical hub between Dallas, Texas, and Shreveport, Louisiana.
And I began working in a skilled nursing facility for my CF, didn't love it.
But loved the adults.
So I moved into home health.
Uh in home health I worked for a staffing company full-time and they held contracts with all of the local health companies, which meant on a pretty normal week I was working for between 10 and 15 companies because there are so few SLPs hanging out in East Texas.
It became pretty apparent that there was a very large need for continued care.
You know, these people
We're getting a lot of care and home health.
And then in 2020, outside of COVID happening, we actually had pretty big changes to the way that Medicare was going to reimburse home health services.
So PDPM and PDGM came into play, drastically changed how we could treat in terms of frequency visit and how long or how many cert periods we could see somebody.
And all of a sudden we were playing this game with P T or O T where they'd be like, okay.
Take a break for sixty days and then come back and see 'em.
Well, that's not functional.
