Um because he is looking for the cult of the Leviathan, which is supposed to have lived in this cave system.
Um and the entrance to the cave collapses.
They're trapped inside.
They're super not alone inside.
Um
And the Leviathan is real and intent on putting them through a series of trials that picks into their deepest, darkest secrets, um, and pulls it all out and makes them confront it for better or for worse.
Um, well the running bit that I've had from the jump is what are the two scariest things I can think of?
Oh, it's the C and Med in Academia. 'Cause I started it in my first year of doing a PhD that I have since dropped out of for various reasons.
Um that a lot of those reasons are men in academia.
But that's another conversation.
Um it can be this conversation.

But I had just come off of um a different book having a really hard time in the sub trenches.
Um, and I was going through some stuff with my family and in my personal life and
We had just moved to Ireland and everything was feeling very uprooted and very isolated.
And in uh my PhD work, which had to do with adaptations and adaptation studies, I um read Dante's Inferno and I just fixated on it in a way that normal people shouldn't fixate on Dante's Inferno.
Um and you know I was living right on the coast, um, right to the south of Dublin.

And I just thought, okay.
