Appearances
goes hand-in-hand with the plate approach adjustments he's been able to make.
And talking to him about that, he really points to a series in May against the Braves where they were facing Chris Sale.
And he made a little bit of an adjustment of stepping –
setting up in the box closer to the plate.
And so that just gives him kind of further plate coverage against lefties.
It forces the lefties to obviously really have to command well, because otherwise you're either going to hit him or he's going to be able to see pretty clearly out of hand if it's going to be a ball inside.
And so
That adjustment has been really huge for him.
He's really been able to, you know, not only draw walks against lefties, but obviously the power numbers have been incredibly impressive.
And I think just it really is tied to, like,
Really, you ask anyone around the Cubs, I mean, just the incredible plate discipline, whereas, you know, you look at last year where he was on, you know, an MVP pace in the first half, and really that was just from, you know, swinging at everything and, you know, being able to make contact.
And this year, he really, like, early in the season, just basically decided I'm not going to swing at stuff that,
I don't want to swing at, and it's led to this incredible walk rate.
I mean, he's already had multiple three-walk games.
He can still beat pitchers north-south of the strike zone, which makes him obviously incredibly dangerous.
And so, yeah, I mean, the adjustments he's made and the maturity to understand, you know, at 24 years old, that's what he needed to do, 24, 25, like it's just pretty remarkable.
yeah i mean it definitely can make for a long days for opposing starters i mean they they have a real knack for understanding the strike zone pretty much top to bottom and so that doesn't really give you know so-called easy at bats um within the one through nine and so yeah any given day like you know you could be grinding it out against
you know, the number eight hitter, you know, just as much attention that you have to put on, you know, whoever's batting second or third.
And so, yeah, I think you see that just how they've kind of handled tough pitchers this season.
Like, you know, they obviously have some good pitchers in their division.
