Three games back. That's all the Blue Jays find themselves this morning on Thursday, August 6th. Now, there is a long road ahead. There are a lot of teams to jump. The playoff odds are only at about 1 in 20. But as that number in the wildcard games behind column shrinks, we will continue to keep an eye on it. It shrunk because not only did the New York Mets do a job for the Blue Jays, Boba Shett with a little assist as the Mets win in extra innings against one of the teams the Blue Jays are chasing. A lot of the teams the Blue Jays are chasing won or lost or only held serve. And the Blue Jays won a 5-4 game in extra innings against Houston to take their third consecutive series. Jamison Tyon made his debut.
It wasn't the smoothest, wasn't the longest, but hangs in it long enough for the bullpen to take over. Spencer Miles with a couple good innings. Louis Varland with a clean ninth. And Chase Lee, with his first career save, big assist from Jordan Alvarez, who immediately opens that inning with a double down the line, or a single down the line, I guess, technically, because he didn't slide into second and got sneak tagged out by Andres Jimenez. That game, by the way, is a make-up game of a rained-out June 21st game against the Chicago Cubs. So the Blue Jays just went three in Houston. They'll play one in Chicago today. I am pretty good. Yeah, it's been a long week. It feels like it's some version of Thursday that is like three days later than Thursday, but we made it, and an afternoon game helps. The Blue Jays win yesterday. I guess let's just kind of go through some of the bullet point items. Jamison Tyon, the Toronto stuff is nice. The My Parents Met at U of T, not exactly like unbelievable debut there for a guy who was designated for assignment, had his salary eaten, and is running an ERA up around five. What did you make of Tyone's debut and kind of where there needs to be improvement from here if he's going to stick in the rotation?
Yeah, I mean, I don't know that you're necessarily looking for him to be lights out. I think that when the trade initially went down, everybody's immediate reaction was, I guess this is who's going to throw innings for this team, right? Like, I think that that's kind of why he's brought in. And, like, it's a nice story for him. As you say, he has the family connections to Toronto. He's a guy that has represented Canada on the world stage.
