Alright, no Blue Jays baseball yesterday. Um I forget sometimes that as we're coming on, if there's a guest coming up or whatever, they can see me before I can see them. Luckily, you on TV can't. Against the Baltimore Orioles, Max Scherzer and Chris Bassett. We'll start game one of that doubleheader, both TBDs in game two. And a fascinating piece. Look, there's a the rain out has a couple trickle downs. Obviously, it's a doubleheader today. That's tougher to navigate. You don't get the 29th man because you're working with 28-man rosters.
That only applies until August 31st. Probably most salient for me thinking through the last week of the season today is that it takes Max Scherzer. out of the mix for Sunday start. Thought potentially he could start two games here, get that final Sunday start, try to pass Verlander. Um, but today will be his last start of the season. An excellent, excellent piece up at the athletic from Brittroli and uh Mitch Bannon this morning going into Max Schuser season wise still doing this at 42. They touch on potentially pitching next year. There's some interesting things in there like Is rivalry with Justin Verlander and maybe wanting to pass him in strikeouts. Maybe wanting to pitch next year so they don't share a Hall of Fame class together after they've had to share so many things over the years.
And then also the lockouts potential impact on on that as well. Because obviously if you're forty two years old and you have four kids and you're trying to get ready for a season and you don't know when that season's gonna be, I would imagine that is uh that is a difficult that is an extra difficulty in addition to trying to stay healthy and effective at forty two, which really nobody other than Max Scherzer has been able to do. Uh one other note before we get into today's show is that the women's uh Pro Baseball League wrapped up last night. The Queens won the championship. And a shout out to Ayami Sato, friend of the show who was on last year and picked f pitched for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the uh Canadian Baseball League last year.
She won finals MVP, uh tossing a shutout after struggling for most of the year. So an absolute legend in the women's game. Uh, you know, toward the I don't know if it's toward the end of her career, but late 30s, not exactly Max Scherzer, but uh an up and down year for her in the WPBL. And she uh has has that in her one last time uh potentially to get the uh the finals MVP there and wrap up a championship. Uh today we will get you set for a pair of Blue Jays games, but they don't matter all that much. The elimination number for the Blue Jays is down to one, so if they lose one game or the White Sox and Guardians both win one game. The Blue Jays are done. The same situation applies for The Orioles. Uh so throughout the show today we will take a look at some other stuff in baseball as well.
The other playoff races, which are pretty pretty hot, divisional races, NL wildcard race. We'll talk some awards stuff. We'll just go around baseball uh throughout the show.
