Um, you think like, Oh, the surgery sounds awful.
She's like, wait a second.
Actually another patient in this hospital has a similar condition.
He already had the surgery.
It happened a few days ago.
It was the longest on record.
Ten hours of surgery.
It was very painful.
But now it's over and that patient's on the road to recovery.
You might be that patient, or you might be the patient that's scheduled to have the surgery in a couple days.
In which case, we're sure it's just gonna be a normal surgery.
It's not gonna be nearly as long.

She's walking to the nurse's station to check if you're the patient that already had the surgery.
The amnesia is really important here because you know, not only can you not remember which situation that you're in, but you're not having any like present traumatic memories of the surgery, which could color your preferences.
While she's going to the nurses station, what do you hope the answer is gonna be?
Like what do you prefer, which world do you prefer to be in?
Parfitt says, obviously, you prefer to be the patient that already had the surgery and not the patient that would have it coming up.
Even if you were the patient that w were having it coming up, it would be shorter.
That's some evidence that you discount the past.
