A big advocate for gun control and gun safety measures because of what happened to him.

And I wonder...

And of course, President Reagan was shot.

You did shoot him.

And it was by the grace of God that his life was not taken.

I mean, they said that had that bullet been, you know, an inch the other way, he would have been dead.

He didn't even know he'd been shot until he got into the car.

And then it became clear, but it just missed his heart.

He had a collapsed lung.

He walked into George Washington Hospital and famously told his wife, Nancy, honey, I forgot to duck.

When you think about that, when you hear those injuries, John, what does that do to you?

What does it make you feel?

President Reagan would give an interview to Larry King about his experience there.

Here's some of that.

I didn't know I was shot.

I heard a noise and we came out of the hotel and headed for the limousine, and I heard some noise and I thought it was firecrackers.

And the next thing I knew, one of the Secret Service agents behind me just seized me here by the waist and plunged me headfirst into the limo.

I landed on the seat and the seat divider was down, and then he dived in on top of me, which is part of their procedure to make sure that I'm covered.
