2016 was a disaster.
uh for u.s media and you know cnn played its own role even your former boss jeff zucker held his hands up and said we gave too much coverage we covered too many of his speeches uncritically live we showed the podium waiting we let him phone in interviews 2016 was a disaster in 2020 there was some improvement done i think journalists slightly woke up to the threat of trump there was a little bit more coverage of his racism and his authoritarianism then january 6th happens everyone's like wow wow he's really bad and they catch up with what you and i had been saying for a while
And now I feel like 2024, we've regressed.
We've gone back to 2016.
We're doing the both sides-ism.
We're normalizing Trump.
We're playing the same game where he floods the zone with bullshit, to quote Steve Bannon.
He gives us too many scandals and controversies to cover.
And we say, hey, one guy is really, really old, and the other guy's got 90-odd indictments, 90-odd charges against him, four indictments.
And it's just, no, they are not the same.
Can we cover Trump as the authoritarian...
I'm on the left, and people are having this debate where people are wondering, you know, Biden's Gaza campaign, does that make him as evil as Trump?
Does it make him worse than Trump?
And I interviewed Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at the Zateo launch in D.C.
last week, and I asked her, like, what do you say to people on the base who say we can't vote for Biden because of Gaza?
And she made a good point.
She said it's not about lesser of two evils.
