It's been really huge.
I grew up in a small country town called Robertson in New South Wales.
I didn't really have any access to theatre.
And the only access I really had to theatre was in, you know, secondhand bookshops and the school library.
Almost always it was currency press plays.
So old David Williamson plays sitting on the shelf.
I would grab them and I would pay my dollar or $2 and take them home and
So to be published by Currency is a really big deal for me personally, you know, and David Williamson himself wrote the forward to my play and it just felt like such an exciting moment when I read that forward, when I got the play in my hands.
And Kate, to think that other young women, young aspiring playwrights, they might come across this play in a $2 shop or in their own school library and be introduced to theatre just makes me so excited.
It probably sounds really pretentious, but it's true.
I've always felt like books have been the great love of my life.
They've been this portal outside of my small country town.
They were a portal to the world for me.
A few years ago, I was offered a job down in Hobart at a time that I had just read three Richard Flanagan books.
So it was a no-brainer for me to move to Hobart.
Significant life decisions I've made because of the worlds that fiction has opened up for me.
And so the first year of lockdown was kind of heavenly.
And I was reading one or two books a week.
And then something happened around Christmas.
I don't know what it was, but I just wasn't able to read any fiction.
