And now I'm so excited that she can talk to us a little bit about her sensory journey.
But tell us a little bit about yourself and the setting you work with, the ages, kind of that sort of thing.
you take so much with you right because you were a gen ed teacher for years before you became a speech therapist so if anybody knows about how the school works definitely it's you so i wanted to ask you with your range of experience you know being a teacher being in a clinic as an slp being a school-based slp what made you realize you needed to learn more about sensory
yeah um i wonder if you could speak to that a little bit like how you felt as like the therapist when you didn't know like how to help her
Yeah, because I've been there because, yeah, like, the point is, you're the speech therapist, right?
You're there to help them with their language.
But if they're so dysregulated and they can't access language, it's like, yeah, what am I?
Why are you paying me to be in this room?
Like, what am I even doing here?
I totally have felt that before, and I'm sure other people have felt that as well.
And so like going back to your first client, you even talked about it a little bit, you know, even just like some small things like who doesn't love a bear hug?
I mean, sometimes you just want a hug, right?
And just doing that, meeting her where she was, was effective.
So when you started learning about sensory and taking some of like the free trainings that we've put out there, what was kind of the biggest aha moment that you had?
Like, was there a concept that really just clicked?
That actually really leads into like what we talked about during today's session is prevention.
How can we prevent dysregulation from happening?
Getting to this idea of, you know, we all kind of have different sensory needs and there's different things that are going to happen all day that maybe will impact our regulation.
And if we can figure out what these sensory triggers are and prevent them from happening,
