It was really difficult for them.
And unfortunately, three of them were killed.
Two others were hurt when they were trying to battle that blaze.
And also Governor Cox from Utah sharing that this is heartbreaking news, calling them three heroes that made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the lives and communities along the Utah-Colorado border.
And it is tough.
We're learning that the topography there is really mountainous.
It's hilly.
There's points where the wind, if it just blows straight through, these embers can go flying.
And then all of a sudden, even firefighters who are skilled and trained can be trapped and just have nowhere to go.
Over the weekend, over in Grand Junction, first responders were able to honor them with the procession.
So, yeah, Brad, that was like a big concern.
Some of these fires have been burning for more than a week.
In fact, for the Cherry Fire and the Iron Fire, there were communities that had already evacuated last week, were allowed to come back in, then had since had to reevaluate and are waiting to then return back home again.
It is such a challenge for them because of the changing conditions of the weather.
Right now, they're finally getting a relief from those red flag warnings.
Temperatures are cooling, but it is the summer and dry weather is naturally upon us.
And so is that hot weather.
So even the fire officials are telling everyone this is something you just have to be prepared for and be ready to evacuate at a moment's notice.
Something that Utah is doing to combat these really harsh conditions that they're experiencing is that Utah's governor is actually banning fireworks for the 4th of July.
Statewide already in federal lands, you're not allowed to have fireworks, but there are areas where they were anticipating fireworks shows.
