I love Debbie McCumber.

I will never apologize for my love of Debbie McCumber.

She is so good at writing good people doing normal, everyday things.

Every single time a character comes to a decision, they make a choice that you would hope a real person would actually make.

That's the overwhelming feeling I came away with.

There's something so deeply satisfying about spending a few hours in a world where people just do the right thing.

Also, this book is completely predictable.

And good old Maisie, our lead character, is not just a smidge.

She's a whole helpin' too good to be true.

Debbie doesn't write what I would call sassy or spicy or spunky leads.

That's not what she's here to do.

She just writes like good lead characters.

That's fine.

I didn't pick this up hoping for anything different.

Picked it up hoping to be soothed and mission.

What caught me off guard, coming straight off, you know, I've been reading forever all the Sarah J.

Mass books, where the dialogue in especially in Crescent City can be truly terrible.

I was struck by how well Debbie McComber writes a conversation.

She's really, really skilled at it.
