You know, you've done a lot of reporting recently on family separation, on deportation, on children who have been held.

How do you approach interview subjects who are young, who are vulnerable in a different kind of way?

You're very good at incorporating the voices of people that other reporters might not necessarily think.

I am so impressed by your piece on the felony murder doctrine, in part because you, on the one hand, are speaking to a person convicted

of felony murder.

And on the other hand, you're speaking to the son or the stepson of his alleged victim, who also doesn't believe in the felony murder doctrine and also finds it to be unjust.

And one of the most impressive things to me about that piece is how you're going back and forth between those two subjects.

So they end up occupying, there's a kinship that you unearthed.

between them, even though they really ought to be on opposite sides of the issue.

I'm curious to hear how that piece came about and how your conversations with them led to the structure of that piece.

I don't mean to not take you seriously as a reporter, but what pants did you end up wearing?

It has been interesting to hear from each of our guests what the circumstances are in which people do not want interviews to take place, where they don't want people asking certain kinds of questions and they don't want those questions being answered.

How has your approach to interviewing, how has your assessment of the costs of it and the benefits of it changed between the Obama administration, the first Trump administration, and the second Trump administration?
