I don't, I don't know if others clubs knew this or had maybe Perth had spoken to you.

I'm not sure, but it's like this, he's a, he's a game changer.

Forget about what he, like we've paid him, whatever we've paid him.

The value in Jerome Lua is what he's done for us already.

What he does on the field, we hope he can lead us to something exciting, competitive and successful.

But you can see already what that investment has yielded for us.

And it was so, so important.

It just happened to be that I had a pretty good understanding of how long we had to get it done.

And it was so close to not happening because the day he agreed was like a day before April 30.

But what we didn't envisage, and I remember speaking to the NRL at the time, is there's a 10-day period where the incumbent club

have to change his mind.

So we were April 29.

So even if we lodged the contract, we couldn't lodge the contract till that 10 days was waived.

And if we lodged it in 10 days time, it would have been null and void because it was past the option date.

So Benji had to actually...

give us the green light to sign him by waiving that 10-day cooling off period.

And without that, we wouldn't have been able to do it.

But I think to give Benji credit, he understood what this was for Jerome, the opportunity, not just financially, but legacy as a person, what he could do for that country.
