They want them to require them to have visible IDs.
They want to see judicial warrant requirements for when ICE agents enter homes.
Those are all red lines for a lot of Republicans.
But I think there's a sense that if the operations in Minnesota draw back
if the administration can signal in some way that they're willing to soften their approach, that maybe Democrats might be more willing to support a compromise.
But I want to make clear right now, like Democrats in the Senate have been unified against any kind of compromise.
They really want stronger restrictions on immigration enforcement.
Look, I think the thing I want to stress is that right now on the Hill, it looks as of this morning as if we're headed toward a shutdown of the Homeland Security Department.
And I think a big question is whether the Holman's announcement today changes the equation for anybody.
But as of now, it's too soon to tell.
Right, yeah, so there's a deadline tomorrow at 11.59 p.m.
essentially to fund the department, and if they can't reach an agreement, then the department will shut down.
And so I think what might be happening here, though I can't say, this is just speculation on my part, is the administration is trying to show that it's willing to change the posture of its immigration enforcement efforts to try to get Democrats to agree to fund the department.
