I think a lot of people feel like having all this information come out on a Friday when Congress is out of session and
not having any heads up, not having any sense of what these would be, expectations were really high.
And there is a feeling, I think, from members of the House and senators that they were sort of blindsided by what would be released here.
I mean, I've been talking to people about this for weeks and no one had any idea what was coming and when.
And I think seeing these has not
helped.
And I would also say there were members of, I think it was senators, sorry if they were members of the House, but there were senators who sent a letter to the Attorney General saying that they wanted to make sure, I'm sorry, this was the Inspector General, these are the people who keep the DOJ accountable, saying they wanted details on who touched these files because they were worried that the files might have been tampered with or improperly redacted.
So even before this came out, they were laying the groundwork to say, we need more information about what we're getting here, and they just haven't gotten any of that yet.
Yeah, the letter, I mean, the letter that Todd Blanche sent to Congress said that they started really going through these once the law was passed and they had a better understanding of what they would and wouldn't need to produce.
And in the course of this process, they got the grand jury testimony unsealed in these three criminal cases, and that's added to the burden.
But they had more than 200 attorneys looking at all of this, and this is what they've been able to release so far.
But to your point, a lot of people are saying this is not a 30-day process that the Justice Department said back in February that it was looking at all of this.
Clearly, they've known what the files are, and they've had ample time to figure this out.
So I think there is a lot of disappointment from Congress that the spirit of the law and the letter of the law don't necessarily match here.
And there are a lot of things that haven't been provided.
What I'm hearing through the network is that 3 p.m.
is when they're going to start to release the documents.
They have no obligation, candidly, to release into Congress first.
They need to release it to the country.
It would have been better had they met with Massey and me and the survivors lawyers, they wouldn't be in a place like they are today where they're scrambling, but they didn't do that.
