And I don't think the president has been very clear about that.
I mean, he's talked about wanting to make sure Iran disarms.
He's talked about making sure they can't get nuclear weapons up and going.
But beyond that, it's hard to know what the political angle is here inside the Islamic Republic.
Turns out the regime who chanted death to America and death to Israel was gifted death from America and death from Israel.
This is not a so-called regime change war.
But the regime sure did change.
You know, I don't, hard to interpret.
I would say it sounds like it's, if I were guessing, it sounds like he's saying that they did not do this to kill the Ayatollah and that they see that as a fringe benefit.
But again, it just makes it sort of unclear what they did this to do.
If the end game was to retaliate for the protesters, there was maybe a way to do that that did not
you know, clearly kill the country's leader.
I don't I honestly don't know.
I think we have a lot of questions about how this came about and that we're still going to be reporting on today.
One thing that I think also I didn't mention earlier, but just thinking through Trump's relationship with Iran, you know, I think at some point in 2024, there was a federal prosecutor sort of
unsealed a case saying that Iranian agents had plotted an assassination attempt on him.
So, you know, and he has not mentioned that at any point in the last week.
But I think that's also important background just in terms of how he views how he views Iran.
I mean, as you know, I covered the Trump campaign in 2024, and he was constantly talking about this.
He said no new foreign wars.
