This, to me, seems exactly the same as the argument for school choice, which was a little bit controversial on the right. matched

Even some of my fellow Tennessee Republicans, they were kind of opposed to it because they supported the public schools. matched

But generally, this is a very popular policy. matched

It says we're going to get direct payments from the government to help you raise your kids in the way that you see fit. matched

It's unsatisfying because we're not uh we're we don't have a perfect uh subsidiarity here where the decisions are being made at the most competent local levels. matched

But all in all, I really don't get much of the opposition to this policy. matched

I get I get an opposition to a broader ideology, but I don't I don't get an opposition to this policy. matched

And I think it's deeper even than civic nationalism. matched

I mean, uh obviously in the United States, civic nationalism is kind of our go-to because we're a historically strange country that is now m uh extremely multi-ethnic and multi-religious and all the rest. matched

But but with Israel, you know, un many um twentieth century liberals will say America's just an idea. matched

Israel is not just an idea. matched

Israel is an historic nation. matched

Some would say it's the historic nation, and in fact, the type of all of the other nations. matched

And so, yeah, I think there are a lot of lessons to learn from Israel. matched

I mean, you have a largely homogeneous population with a deep sense of, you know, intragroup uh loyalty and history. matched

You have a religion, even though to your point, Tel Aviv is about as secular a city as exists. matched

But nevertheless, there is the sense that the religion is in the air. matched

There is a common religion to the state of Israel. matched
