I think I was pleasantly surprised, especially kind of by the scale of it.

But I wasn't shocked.

I mean, I think the biggest thing is that last year when Zoran Mamdani ran for mayor, kind of the composition of the Democratic electorate in New York City changed significantly.

There were a lot more younger voters participating.

What was...

pretty spectacular about the victories on Tuesday, June 23rd this year was that, you know, a lot of his coalition and his movement to a certain extent transferred to other candidates that he supported, or even in some cases that he didn't, that were still democratic socialists, you know, the extent to which the coalition was replicated and young people once again kind of came out in a significant proportion of the electorate was very significant.

I think it's important to note that

Mariam James ran for a state assembly seat in lower Manhattan and finished, I believe, in fourth or fifth place to a DSA candidate who won.

So to win a district like the 13th Congressional District in New York, which ranks in the 98th percentile for poverty, you cannot win that district with a narrow coalition of white, college-educated, keffiyeh-wearing Democratic socialists.

You can't.

And had Adriana Espa, again, a 10-year Democratic incumbent,

won Black voters, held Harlem, he would have won.

But he didn't do that, and he lost, right?

So there's narrative buster right there.

Claire Valdez won the 7th Congressional District by 20 points overall.
