Uh that comes with some machine.
machinery to try to uh draw a computational boundary between yourself and the outside world.
So you have some idea, some hypothesis about where you end and where the outside world begins, which again helps you set goals because your goals are mostly
about a particular region.
Uh and uh and and then and then there's something else which which is important.
And this uh I don't know how deeply you want you want me to go into all this, but um there's a there's a fundamental thing where you are in charge of interpreting what your own memories mean.
And what I mean by that is uh at any given moment you don't have access to the past.
What you have access to are the engrams that the past that that
previous you has has compressed the various experiences into structures in your in your brain and body.
And at every given moment, you have to reinterpret those memory tr memory uh what you know, what memory structures, whatever the the medium is, and and and continuously tell and retell a coherent st a coherent story about what you are, how you got here, what the outside world means, where what you do next.
This is a constant process of construction.
So I so so I think a s uh a self is that ongoing, uh basically um uh uh kind of uh yeah, you know, self-referential process that attempts to tell a story about an ongoing thing with particular boundaries, with particular goals, and in particular, always project it forward.
Right.
I I I don't exactly know what happened in the past.
I'm gonna do my best to kind of confabulate a consistent story.
on the fly, but what I do know for sure is that I need to make decisions right now.
I mean I need to decide what do I do next.
And so that kind of forward-looking, self-constructive process that um continuously interprets the uh the memory affordances given to you to try to uh uh figure out what you're gonna do next.
That that that to me sounds like a useful um concept of a self.
But but j but just to say something relevant is is is two things.
