I think it uh involves supporting organizational relationships with all the stakeholders.
and facilitating the board's decision making process, not just in the um uh as to who speaks in board meetings, but making sure all the steps are taken to t to make sure appropriate decisions are made and the business judgment rule is satisfied where appropriate.
Uh yeah, but more to your point, uh the uh NACD attributes to the chair
The responsibility for setting a kind of strategic or direction.
And ensuring alignment.
This is I think important.
And ensuring alignment with the company's mission values.
That sounds like soft stuff, but it's really not.
Uh NACD calls it a kind of a linchpin role and in that the chair is to act as as a a a key strategic advisor and sounding board to the CEO, although we would say the whole board is supposed to act as a strategic advisor.
The primary conduit with the full board uh and the CEO
And I think importantly too, Rob, this goes back to the evaluation process.
a driver of accountability for strategic and performance goals.
Are we as a board meeting our goals?
Is management reading re uh reaching their goals?
And maybe that's what the BP chair thought he was doing.
That's where I kind of come back to.
Maybe that in in his bull in the China Shop approach, uh he was trying to set some strategic goals for the organization.
