But I think sometimes people take hold of this and say, oh, it's a huge waste of money.
It's costing hundreds of thousands.
No, it is massively reducing litter.
So again, I think there's an element of bin redesign.
If you see the big belly bins, which are kind of, they're usually black, a bit larger.
They have much higher capacity.
They compress things slowly.
They're solar powered.
Some of those have been broken into, but in the main, they're very, very difficult to scavenge from.
That is probably generally happening with anything going into public bins.
And that's a real downside.
We did a few years ago try in Dublin City Council, here's a bin for recyclables, here's a bin for general stuff.
And unfortunately, they just found it was all just mixed together.
There was no use in it.
So that's a bit of a tricky one to solve.
I haven't seen many countries where they have.
I know in train stations, they sometimes have divvied up bins.
But I get the sense people pay attention to it at home, but when they're on the go, they're just too busy.
It did and then again I looked at it I got out my kitchen scales and weighed an empty can and it's about 12 grams and if you look at the amount of waste Dublin City Council monitors the amount of waste they collect in tonnes and they collect 18,000 tonnes of litter and bin waste in a year which is about
it's 18 billion grams right so if you think of by design cans and bottles when they're empty are very very light so it takes billions to really of them to make a big difference so the better way of looking at is this making a big difference in litter is not weighing it all and saying oh there hasn't been much difference it's to look at the actual breakdown of it a group called IBAL Irish Business Against Litter has done this and they said that litter of cans and bottles has fallen by about 50% okay Vincent what are your members telling you is this scheme working
