If I give up my history against your people, against your family, against your interests, where's the interest in you supporting me?
That's what I said.
I think he went right to the core of it.
And he was absolutely right.
And look, I appreciate what my brother Charles had to say.
And I, you know, I can appreciate that.
I don't necessarily agree with it.
I don't see it that way.
I've argued since my early days in Republican politics and more broadly politics generally, that the one thing that is always confounded me is that the African-American community has not leveraged the full weight and breadth of the power it has.
politically, economically, socially, and in ways that will orient the focus of others on the legacy we've already created for this country and for countless families named Kennedy, Rockefeller, etc.,
Right.
And use that leverage in a way in which we not just get more of the economic pie, but claim more of the American promise and the history that comes from that promise.
And so that's part and parcel of the frustration, I think.
that some of us have.
And so sometimes when you're in a conversation like this, that's what animates me.
At the end of the day, I want you to vote whoever you think is going to best serve your interests.
But you can't look at what
at least what Kamala has put on the table and at least what the administration has tried to do on student debt, on getting inflation down, on infrastructure.
There are a whole lot of black construction workers who are working right now.
