And Morocco is a big hit.
And I probably should say something about the way she was photographed.
This guy, Sternberg, Joseph von Sternberg, she, thanks to him, has this amazing cinematic legacy.
It's the thing that she has over on Garbo.
Garbo was a much better actress.
I mean, there's no comparison.
I mean, Dietrich was barely an actress.
She could be good, but what she had going for her, put it this way, there are a lot of good actresses.
There's only one Dietrich, you know?
So Dietrich was her own thing.
But the thing that she has going for her as a star of cinema from a historical point of view over Garbo is that she had Sternberg.
Sternberg was a master of lighting.
He was a master of making women look beautiful.
I mean, he made a movie called The Docks of New York about a year before he met Dietrich with a woman named Betty Compson.
And it's fascinating to watch it.
It's a silent film because he does everything that he does with Dietrich, with Betty Compson.
Betty Compson, aside from that movie, is kind of cute.
She's just a regular cute woman from 1928.
He makes her into almost Dietrich.
Almost Dietrich.
