The difference in them is that we give voice and an opportunity to

to the iwi to tell their side.

So, you know, the Crown is well covered with the Dr Vincent O'Malley's, with all the literature and all the research that's available in archives and libraries around the country.

Plenty of historians around the country have written about it.

So that's taken care of.

One thing that hasn't really been taken care of are the stories of the people.

And so that's the biggest privilege for Annabel and I is to, you know, it's quite a different process to be able to tell these documentaries.

We actually physically go...

to the iwi and we put our tono down to ask if they would trust us to tell their story.

And once we get past that, it's on them to find their historians.

And, you know, one of the historians in this one is an 18-year-old young woman, Nikki Pewhairangi, who'd been shoulder-tapped by her iwi to go while she was at kura to learn about this story.

And so...

She's their youngest historian.

And then there's Nick Tupara, who is a... You know, he's only here because his four great-grandfathers had escaped out the back of the pā.

And so these are their historians, and their history is trapped or collected, if you like, inside of their motiatia, their haka.

You know, if you sat down with them, they'll show you where every piece of kōrero comes from.

It's like their history books are just different.

And so...

Yeah, that's how we tell these stories.

We just bring all of those voices together and we just call them stories of because they are kōrero tuku iho, they come from the Yaakos, they come from the great work of Vincent O'Malley and we put them all together and basically into a timeline and offer them up.
