On Saturday, we had a kai across the road at a Chinese restaurant before they all went home.
One of the elders popped his head in and he said, you know,
today's been amazing.
And he said, you know, when you go to the doctor and you say, these are my symptoms, I've got this and I'm feeling like this, and you get a diagnosis.
And he said, I now have a diagnosis for all of my symptoms and how I have felt all of my life.
And there has never been an answer to it.
And now I have the answer because it has simply just been told to me in a linear way with all of the bits and pieces.

You know, that's actually how lots of Māori, when you come from places like Waikato, Taranaki, you know their stories.
You don't know the exact story.
Like I'm from Waikato, Maniapoto, Ngāti Pāoa, Ngāti Nahua and all those places have something to do with the wars, if it's Ōrākau, if it's Mere Mere or if it's Tauranga Moana.
Our people were there.
And we have just known, we just have mamai in our family.
People name their kids mamai, just to remember the pain.
Mamai ro, the long pain, and those kinds of things.
And for me, even growing up outside of Waikato, I knew this stuff went on.
I don't quite know what it is.
And it's not until you learn it all, you can actually backtrack and work out,
oh, now I kind of understand why lots of my whānau live like this or can't get up or, you know, because not everyone can live with trauma.
And so it just makes you understand your people a lot better.
