It's just a shared acknowledgement of the mamai and the loss, really.
And so going forward, everything we talk about today is impacted by those decisions in the 1860s.
Because today we talk about treaty, we're talking about economic recovery, we're talking about health, we're talking about education, we're talking about our language.
And so when you can have that in the back of your mind when you're having these debates today and these discussions, it changes the way that you see them and you argue them.
Yeah, I just think everywhere I go, people are receptive to te reo.
I mean, even in places like RNZ and TVNZ, we have full pōwhiri now and people seem to know what's going on and they are turning up.
They're not being forced to come.
They're actually having a great time.
You go to a funeral and a whānau Māori will stand up and do theirs in te reo and sing a beautiful waiata and everyone loves it, embraces it.
You meet people on the street or at the pub or in a cafe and they practice their te reo on you.
And I love that.
And so the horse is bolted.
We are a country that has been through some pain and we are reflecting.
And some are quicker than others, but we're getting there.
