And it's kind of quite full on.

Yeah, and so she's in the middle of it and feeling it.

And that's that thing I was saying to you is that you might have been born in 2010 or 2005 probably in her case, but that trauma lives inside of your blood, in your DNA.

It's like you cannot kick that.

And you can live...

and not know your Māori, and you can live not knowing your story, and you'll probably live quite a decent life.

But the moment that you reconnect with your people, your language, your history, and your stories, it's a bit of a double-edged sword, really, because you know you're going deep, and you're going in, and you're going to have to prepare yourself.

But at the same time, you have this beautiful kind of splashback that comes with it.

At the same time, you get like...

showered with love and aroha and mātauranga and language and song and whakapapa and connection.

But they both come together.

You can't have one without the other.

And he has such a beautiful kōrero about how... I gave him the microphone because I was thinking, I don't want to talk.

So I just thought, here's a guy, 40 years in the industry, he'll be great.

And he couldn't talk.

When I was in Gisborne filming, I actually thought a lot about your whānau, knowing that you guys are from Gisborne and all of the gillies that I've worked with in journalism along the way.

You go to places like that and you know the whānau, whether they're Māori or Pākehā or whatever, it's a shared history and a shared connection to the whenua and the maunga and the awa and the sea and the rest of it.

So I think that's what is special about these is that there's no blame on somebody's sixth grandparent and whānau.
