And I think anyone who can remember it remembers where they were at the time.

horrific to happen in Australia, let alone a place like the place behind me, the Port Arthur Historic Site.
Yes, it's had a dark history, but people came here to kind of get a sense of our past.
They didn't come here 30 years ago expecting anything like this to happen, obviously.
Yeah, I was overwhelmed.
I think most journalists, if they were truthful, were certainly overwhelmed.
Not in our worst nightmares did we ever expect to be covering something like this at home, let alone, again, a place as tranquil as this.
I remember touching down in Hobart and people were literally crying on the streets.
They were devastated.
They were shocked.
They were angry.
It was hard to comprehend the evil that had been inflicted on this place and the people who were here.
It was very confronting.
And as a journalist, it was kind of hard to comprehend while still trying to do your job.
Yeah, Nanette and the two girls had fled when they heard that the shots ring out.
They were actually going back up the hill trying to get away from the shooting and they saw Martin Bryant's Volvo driving up the exit and they actually went towards it thinking that perhaps...
He could offer help a way out, not realizing it was the gunman himself.
